The differences in a nut shell, the 88 uses a different trigger group with a crossbolt safety while the 500 has a tang safety. The 88 receiver is not drilled for scope rail. And the 88 uses a cheaper fore end with the action bars pinned to the fore end.The main difference between the two shotguns is the bore diameter. The 835 is overbored to almost 10ga bore and the 535 is standard 12ga. This means the 835 is good for patterning large payloads of pellets, but not the best for small payloads.
