That depends on the operator most often. I have a 36 made in 47 one piece in it. The other safety is the half cock. Ditto on my 49 336A. My 1970 has the trigger block and half cock. Recently recieved my 1897 Marlin 22 back from the gunsmith , had it relined and a new 39 bolt and firing pin from Dick's Gun shop also. After 20 rounds fired it wouldn't extract. I looked and saw there was a burr at the top entrance of the chamber, where the firing pin hits.Here is a pic of the bolt firing pin retaining stud on my 2009 model 39a. Marlin added the retaining stud in 1988. As the picture indicates, the outer edge of the stud is just enough to keep the firing pin from being removed. It's main purpose is to keep the pin from marring the top of the reciever when cycling the action.
