I have recently aquired a chevy small block and I'm having trouble finding out exactly what it is. I have found Four numbers. 3970010 along with "hecho en mexico" on the back drivers side. 254 on the back passenger side. 010 on the drivers side in front of the oil filter. and the engine code is "MK01800."The TBM suffix on the number stamped on the pad on the front of the engine is for a 1970 307 out of a G-10 van. The only trouble is that the casting number on the back of the block should be 3970020 instead of 3970010. There is no date code or clock on rear of the engine. One forum quoted that GM moved date codes to the side of the block in the 70's. This is passenger side between the core plugs.
