I just changed my gear oil in the front and the fluid capacities I've seen posted says 4 pints (2 quarts), but that much won't fit in. At about a 1.3 qts it starts flowing out the fill hole. Received 2 Likes on 2 Posts. Usually add 2 bottles of the Ford LSD additive to a large differential like a 70. You can use 75W-90, 80W-90, 85W-140. Just about anything specified as gear oil. With something like a motorhome that sees extended periods of high speeds at a heavier weight, you might think about using the higher viscosity oil.Servicing the differential oil is fairly easy and straight forward. Ford recommends using 75w140 synthetic. The Dana Service manua l says to change the oil every 250,000 miles or 3 years.. I have a factory Dana 44. I was wondering how oil it takes? Some say to fill it until it comes out the fill hole. When I went to 6" coils from 4" coils it changes the angle of the pumkin and decreases the amount of oil it can hold. The rubicon e-lockers don't require friction modifier. Front JK Dana 44 = 1.35 quarts. Rear JK Dana 44 = 2.375 quarts.
