I recently got to 240 (with a couple seconds at 244) while towing a heavy trailer uphill on the interstate in 89F weather - 4000 rpm in 3rd at 55 mph. I read the forum and replaced everything that I could find that would be causing the issue. Fan, radiator (went moshimoto), radiator tubes, thermostat (replaced with ripp), water pump, coolant, air filter, sc oil, engine oil. This is how it got last weekend on a 10 mile climb at 10% grade. Key Facts: Temp rises only during hard/uphill driving. After climbing a hill, once the grade flattens, the temp will return to normal in a minute or two. When I’m driving about 70MPH my jeep overheats. I can drive around town all day and go 55-60 on the highway with no problems (temperature stays just about 210, just under 210 is normal for a Jeep, so a little hotter than normal but will never overheat.) This is what I’ve done so far…. New radiator cap. New Thermostat. New water pump.2. Filled the radiator with the coolant along with the resevoir. 3. Turned on the vehicle and left the radiator cap open then let it run for a few mins, 4. Drove it around the neighbourhood. Once I started driving it around was when the overheating started to happen and the radiator fan sounded like a plane engine.

All JK's A/C will make that sound at any given time, the owner might not notice it and some will make more of a hissing sound. If it starts to get noticeably warm and ...Chrysler immediately said that the issue was due to a crack in the thermostat housing that was bleeding coolant back into the core. According to the dealer, Chrysler said it is a rapant issue (although my dealer has never encountered one) and the part is on back order. Bad news is the part may take a month to get.

In older vehicles that had questionable cooling fans, you could just drive 50-60 and the airflow through radiator was enough to keep your engine happy. Not so in the JK.
