If the chanber goes all the way through you might want to drive a solid rod into the full length of the head and weld it. Later if you decide to port the head, its the rod not a hole. The engine now has D3VE heads and is probably in the range of 7.5:1--8.0:1 compression. I figure losing almost 20cc in the combustion chamber should maybe bump compression into the 9.0:1+ range. Any thoughts? These two reasons alone make it obvious why Ford returned to the closed chamber head with the introduction of the D3VE. The D3VE's chamber CC is very close to that of the D2VE's chamber (keeps compresison ratio down), but the shape makes for both a better mixture motion and a shorter flame travel.
